Many people consider themselves to be spiritual, however they despise modern day practices of religion that they have been exposed to. Somewhere in our history, some how in our transition in to the free spirited, free thinking humans we’ve become we’ve been lead to think that religion is wrong. Religion can be thought of as a descendant of spirituality, as the pillars of a structured religion can give focus and clarity to your spiritual journey. Spirituality and religion overlap in many ways. Spirituality can be defined as ‘the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.’ (Google)
According to Wikipedia “There is no scholarly consensus over what precisely constitutes a religion.” Meaning religion can be whatever you choose to believe or whatever you stand for. I am by no means a expert on theology. I cannot even be considered a Freshman in religious study unless my Baptist Sunday School classes at church can transfer as college credit. As a Christian I consider myself in the infancy/toddler stages of my spiritual growth track and I’ve been here for quite some time. I’m a slow learner when it comes to “right versus wrong” or “good versus evil.” Let’s just say I’m a work in progress and that’s ok!
I don’t know much. Corinthians, Socrates and Erykah Badu all said a lot when they said (and I paraphrase ) that knowing you know nothing is the smartest thing to know. I do however believe spiritually and thus religiously that Love is at the core foundation of life itself. In “Agape Love” by Sir John Templeton he discusses how the eight major religions focus on loving people with Agape Love (limitless love, no matter what the person may do or say) should be a basic human function. It is the entry fee to being or becoming a “good person.” It is a cleansing, freeing love and while it is much easier to say than to actually do its better for you and the entire world to try. It allows you to release the negative energy. While all might not agree with all religious teachings, we can agree that the concept of loving others is good for world!
I won’t tell you what to think or believe. If you want or need direction I can share my story on why I believe what I believe, but it is all based on choice. It is my belief that God wants you to choose Him, but he will never force you!
No matter what direction you go in, go full speed…and with Love, Agape Love for yourself, Agape Love for all.
